Bill Lee

Co-Founder

Bill started FastIsFun. When everyone was designing slower boats under the IOR, Bill was one of the first ones to break out and present another (faster) way. In 1977 his legendary yacht Merlintook 22 hours off the Transpac Course Record and neither he nor the competitors have looked back. For 20 years he was president of Bill Lee Yachts, Inc. and his Santa Cruz 27s, 33, 40s, 50s and 70s blazed a trail. Form follows function and there were 14 of Bill’s boats in the 2009 Transpac. After retiring for the boat design and building business, Bill spent 14 years as president of Wizard Yachts Ltd, a brokerage and consulting firm. He was instrumental in forming the California Sled class, the Transpac 52 class, the STP 65 class and continues to get people out sailing both race and cruise. Bill will remain in Santa Cruz but in this universal communication era, he will bring a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to Yachtfinders.
